Driving

Mammoth is centrally located in California and easily accessible by car from metropolitan hubs such as Sacramento, Los Angeles, and Reno

From north of Mammoth:

Reno

From Reno enjoy an easy and beautiful drive down California’s Eastern Sierra Scenic Byway - 395 South - as you pass below towering peaks, through river cut canyons, high desert pastures, and the gateway to Yosemite Valley. Fun fact: Reno/Carson are where Mammoth locals go to shop/stock up on groceries. Estimated time RNO to Mammoth is 3 hours

From south of Mammoth:

Los Angeles

Following the same weekly seasonal migration skiers and boarders have taken since the mid 1950’s, Mammoth is just an easy 5 hour trip north from Los Angeles through the Californian desert along Highway 395. You will travel past Joshua trees, along the shores of the since dried up Owens Lake, and underneath the lower 48’s tallest peak, Mount Whitney. Estimated time LAX to Mammoth is 5 hours

From west of Mammoth:

If coming from the western side of the Sierra - Fresno, Modesto, South Bay Area - you can drive across the Central Valley and through Yosemite National Park to connect with 395 South and arrive in Mammoth. Tioga Pass is subject to winter closures. Estimated time Modesto to Mammoth is 4 hours

Sacramento

Starting in the states Capital, take California’s Hwy 50 as it winds up through the Sierra Foothills along the south fork of the American River, over Echo Summit with views of Lake Tahoe, before connecting with the Eastern Sierra Scenic Byway - Highway 395 - that meanders southbound under towering peaks and past the gateway to Yosemite. The Tollefson’s have forged this route hundreds of times over the past decade to visit family, access races, and get groceries from Trader Joe’s…Estimated time Sacramento International Airport to Mammoth is 4.5 hours
